Increase in burglaries concerns DPP

MEMBERS of Larne District Policing Partnership have voiced serious concern over an increase in burglaries across the borough.

At a private meeting of the body, Chief Insp John Magill told members that thieves are operating in the Larne area and has issued advice on how householders and businesses can assist police in being vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity.

The partnership is urging the public to report any suspicious or unusual activity immediately to 0845 600 8000 and support the PSNI in following simple steps to avoid anyone becoming a victim.

For example, it is essential that before householders leave their home or go to bed that they ensure that all doors and windows are locked and secure. They should also ensure that an intruder alarm is installed in the home and used when appropriate. Good security lighting and CCTV can also deter thieves from entering premises.

If you notice a crime in progress ring the police immediately on 999. Police will follow up on your call and you may prevent a crime.

If you have any concerns, or would like advice, you can contact the local crime prevention officer on 0845 600 8000.
