Increase in pass rate for English and Maths at College

Some 61 percent of outgoing Year 12s earned five or more grades at A* to C, with the number likely to rise.

Principal Hedley Webb said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the results; we’re sitting at the 61 to 62 percent figure at the moment but that will go up after remarks.

“The best performing subject was Technology and Design, which had an 83 percent pass rate. ICT was a very high performing subject as well, and English and Maths passes have both gone up this year.”

Top student at the school was Amber Ferguson, who picked up six A grades, an A* in Learning for Life and Work, and three Bs.

Fellow high achievers included Shattner K Joy, who achieved A grades in ICT, Learning for Life and Work, Maths, Technology, and Science, along with two Bs and one C.

Also celebrating was Christopher Beck, who earned two A* grades in Science and Maths, two As and three B grades. “I’m going to do Maths, Chemistry and Physics for AS-Level,” Christopher said.

Carrying on her studies at the college next year is Lauren Finlay, who has two A grades in Music and Learning for Life and Work, along with five Bs, two Cs and a D.

Sarah Clokey will also be returning to the school after earning four As, four Bs and two Cs. “I’m hoping to do Art, Business Studies, and either RE or Health and Social Care,” Sarah said.
