Independent experts to work with C-Diff inquiry panel

A team of three independent experts will this week begin the work of reviewing all hospital case notes related to those deceased patients affected by the C-Diff outbreak in the Northern Northern Health and Social Care Trust hospitals.

The Inquiry Panel is working to establish the exact numbers who died during the outbreak and for whom C Diff was the underlying cause of death, or was a condition contributing to death.

The three independent reviewers are, Prof George Griffin, Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at St George’s, University of London, Prof Cillian Twomey, Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine, at Cork University/St Finbarr’s Hospitals, Cork and Mrs Lynne Phair, Independent Consultant Nurse and advisor to the Department of Health on safeguarding vulnerable adults.
