The last big event on Carrickfergus Borough Council’s summer events programme before children returned to school was scheduled for Marine Gardens. However, inclement bank holiday conditions saw the Pirate and Princess themed celebration switched to the Civic Centre.

The relocation certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of participants, according to the Mayor, Alderman Charles Johnston.

The first citizen said: “It was an awful day weather wise so the event went inside. People made the effort to get out regardless of what the weather was like. There was a good turnout.”
