Information Day for local taxi operators

TAXI Operator Licensing is being introduced in Northern Ireland on September 1, 2012.

The DOE will be holding an Information Day for taxi operators at Corr’s Corner Hotel, Newtownabbey on August 8 to provide advice and guidance on the application process.

A DOE spokesperson explained: “Taxi operators will have the option of purchasing a one, three or five-year licence. The initial application fee will be reduced from £140 to £40 for all applications received between September 1 and October 31, 2012.

“Taxi operator licensing will improve the level of service to the customer by ensuring accountability and self regulation within the industry. For the first time it will make the link between the person taking the booking, the person driving the taxi and the passenger. It will help reduce illegal taxiing as licensed operators will only be able to use properly licensed vehicles and drivers.”

The Information Day will run at Corr’s Corner Hotel from 10am until 5pm.
