Information evening
THE Diabetes UK Coleraine Parents Support Group is holding an information evening this Wednesday bringing together children and families affected by diabetes in the wider Coleraine and Ballymoney area.
The event will include a talk by Catherine Kearns, a university student with Type 1 diabetes, about her experiences of growing up and living with diabetes. The meeting will take place at 7pm in the Causeway Hospital.
There are approximately 1000 children with Type 1 diabetes in Northern Ireland. Type 1 diabetes can only be treated by insulin injection and, like Type 2 diabetes, if not managed effectively can lead to serious complications. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, Type 1 is not caused by diet or lifestyle issues and its exact cause is still unknown.
