More foster families are urgently required to provide safe, stable and nurturing homes for vulnerable young people. Enquiries about fostering are welcome regardless of race, religion, language, culture, gender, disability, age and sexual orientation. Foster carers may be married, single or have a partner, own or rent their home, work or claim benefits, and may or may not have children of their own.

The teenage years are traditionally difficult. Many young people find the transition from childhood to adulthood challenging.

Most people would recall their own teenage years involving disagreements with their parents and siblings. Family life and managing relationships with peers within the school environment can become difficult for some young people.

Sometimes young people and their parents need a break from each other to clear their heads and mend fractured relationships. In some cases, this break may extend to needing support from social services. A family may struggle on in the hope things will get better and by the time they seek support, the young person needs a complete break. That is when foster care is required.
