Information session for Protestant Groups

GATEWAY to Protestant Participation (GPP) is hosting an information and networking session for groups and organisations who want to find out about and make an input to the preparation of the new Regeneration Plan for Londonderry.

The event will take place in the Officers Mess, Ebrington Barracks today (Wednesday 8th September) at 7.30pm.

The GPP is a strategic programme designed to encourage the participation of the Protestant community by promoting a shared sense of belonging and addressing issues of marginalisation and tackling attitudes to racism and sectarianism, at a local level within the North West Peace III Cluster area. The programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, through the EU programme for Peace and Reconciliation (Peace III) managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

The purpose of this information and networking event is to provide an opportunity for Protestant groups, organisations, individuals and key stakeholders to hear about the regeneration process being facilitated by Ilex, the urban regeneration company. Groups will have an opportunity to share their views and opinions with staff from Ilex who are tasked with regenerating the city, in particular the Ebrington and Fort George Sites.

William Lamrock, General Secretary of the Londonderry YMCA said: “We have organised this information and networking event to provide Protestants with an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their communities and impacting on their lives, to hear from Ilex on the plans for the future and network with other Protestant groups on the issue. We need to ensure that the needs of the Protestant Community are reflected in the regeneration plan for the entire city.

“We believe it is important to have a general discussion, ably facilitated to ensure the Protestant community is aware of the regeneration plan.

“We are delighted Ilex are facilitating this and want to hear from as many people as possible, if you are interested in attending then come along and share your views with us.”
