T'S the 1980s. The Exodus of the Protestant community to the West Bank has begun. But some friendships will last forever.

The story of four friends from both sides of the community during the famous 1980s exodus of the Protestant community is coming to the stage next week.

‘Exodus Revisited’ by local playwright Madeline McCully, author of ‘The Creggan Story’ comes to The Playhouse on Thursday, September 30 and Friday, October 1 at 8pm.

The story is told from a cross community perspective, and the drama was already performed as part of Community Relations Week in April.

The play is performed by local actors, Greta McTeague, Maureen Wilkinson, Helen McLaughlin, Ryan Boyd, Gemma Walker and Cathy Deehan, and directed by youth education worker and outreach development officer at The Playhouse Bernie Mahon.

"We did four scenes earlier this year and we're delighted to be able to put on the full length play," Bernie said.

"It's not a political play, more a personal story of the friendship between four women from different sides of the community. The play has many poignant moments throughout, but is also very funny at times; we've had many a deep discussion alternated with whole-hearted belly laughing during rehearsals!"

"This play gives recognition to the trauma behind the exodus of people from both ‘sides’ of the City during the troubles, but chooses not to dwell on the troubles. It actually highlights how the community has moved forward,” general manager at The Playhouse Niall McCaughan said.

“The response to this show has been hugely positive already so book now to avoid disappointment!”

Tickets for ‘Exodus Revisited’ Thursday September 30 and Friday October 1 at 8pm are 11 / 9 (con) and are now on sale now at the Playhouse Box office on (028) 71268027 or online at www.derryplayhouse.co.uk.
