THE Nerve Centre is now accepting applicants for its award winning courses.

The Nerve Centre is one of the most vibrant art centres in the North West which can provide many opportunities for students to develop their practical skills within the creative industries. Students work on a range of productions, events and projects during their time on the course.

The Nerve Centre produced the Voices film as part of the successful Derry~Londonderry UK City of Culture bid.

There are a number of Full Time training opportunities with accredited courses available in Design and Web Production, Music Production including Sound recording, Television and Video Production and Music Performance and Technology.

Courses available include;

Diploma in Media Techniques (Television and Video): This comprehensive video production techniques course provides students with the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to create high quality video productions.

All areas (pre-production, production and post-production) are thoroughly

investigated theoretically and practically with particular attention being paid to scriptwriting, story boarding, camera techniques, lighting, editing and effects.

Participants work on a diverse range of productions, short dramas, pop videos and promotional videos for local groups as well as playing an active role in the international Foyle Film Festival.

Music Production: Participants receive expert advice and training in all areas of sound recording from experienced and qualified sound engineers. This course provides a practical hands-on learning experience in the recording process using state of the art facilities.

Musicians, prospective sound engineers, budding producers and DJs are just some of the people who utilise the resources available to record artists, learn about the latest digital recording technology, mixing, effects, processors and staple recording techniques such as overdubbing, drop-ins and editing.

Former trainees are now working in various positions within the music industry as recording studio managers, engineers, stage technicians, recording artists, music retailers and producers.

Music Performance & Technology: This course has a concentrated focus on the performing musician. Anyone considering a career in the music industry will find the range of practical skills and knowledge offered on this course invaluable.

This course provides a comprehensive look at the creative side of music with new units in songwriting, dj techniques and digital music composition; you will also be given the opportunity to work and crew on Nerve Centre events as part of the course. Participants will also learn about midi, sound recording and sound reinforcement (PA).

Design and Web Production: The overall objective of this course is to provide participants with skills in design for print and web including sound, video and graphic design. Participants use industry standard software and equipment providing trainees with the diversity of skills needed to work in the multimedia industry. Former trainees are working in related careers of graphic design, web design and film production.

To be eligible for full time courses applicants need to be at least 16 years of age. Applications from school leavers aged 16 years and over are welcome.
