THE Nexus Institute would like to invite you to attend and participate in their very own XFactor Karaoke Night at Brigade Cricket Club next Friday, January 29.

Hosted by the wonderful DJ Jonny Roadshow Productions, the evening promises to be a tongue-in-cheek take of the popular tv show complete with judges, interviews, audience voting and of course prizes.

Foyle Family History Society

The next meeting of the Foyle Family History Society will take place in Central Library, Foyle Street Londonderry, at 7 pm on Monday, 1st February. The evening’s speaker will be Mr Randal Gill, the Society’s President.

His talk will look at sources for those beginning their family history. This is his second visit this year, and will provide an ideal opportunity for those people who were disappointed not to be able to hear his last talk – Attendance was so great at the previous meeting that over 40 people had to be turned away.

A Personal development programme for women titled Confidence to Question, will take place in Waterside Women’s Centre starting this month.

This 10-week programme aims to improve the confidence and assertiveness of participants resulting in healthier behaviours in stressful circumstances and more satisfactory exchanges with health care and other professionals.

Age Concern Derry Reminiscence Evening

AGE Concern Derry will be holding their next reminiscence evening on Wednesday, February 10 at 7.30pm. The talk, “Pathways of Prehen, Past and Present: A Journey through time in Prehen” delivered by local historian George McLaughlin allows attendees to learn about the rich history of the area by following the ancient pathways of Prehen. THE group will hold its first monthly meeting of 2010 at MDEC Altnagelvin Hospital tomorrow, Thursday, January 28 at 8pm. New members welcome for a chat and light gluten free supper.

Art Therapy

THE Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) is providing an art therapy service, free of charge, for cancer patients in Londonderry and the surrounding area.

Starting on February 15, the art therapy group will meet every Monday for six weeks in the Resource Room of the Agnes Jones Centre at Altnagelvin Hospital from 2pm – 3.30pm.

Joanne Robinson, Art Therapist at UCF said everyone was welcome.

She said: “You do not need to be artistic or have any experience in art to enjoy the benefits of art therapy.

“Art therapy can help people communicate anxiety or stress.

“In my experience many participants find the creative process relaxing and they can unwind while chatting to others who are in a similar situation.”
