Inspector praises Glynn PS for ‘exemplary’ pupils and its ‘outstanding teaching’

The school was commended for the quality of teaching and pastoral care, while the children’s behaviour was described as ”exemplary”.

The board of governors has welcomed the newly published report, which follows an inspection in March this year by the Education and Training Inspectorate, who focused on pupils’ achievements and standards in literacy and numeracy, the quality of provision for learning and the quality of leadership and management, including the school’s processes for self-evaluation leading to improvement.

The Glynn governors were “delighted” to note that the overall findings of the inspection report comment that the quality of education provided by the school is “very good”; that the school is meeting “very effectively the educational and pastoral needs of the children”; and has “demonstrated its capacity for sustained self-improvement”.

The inspectorate reported that the children attain very good standards; demonstrate confidence in talking, listening, reading and writing; display an ability to think mathematically; and to talk confidently about their learning.

“Good quality learning and teaching” was allowed to flourish due to the attitudes and behaviours of the whole school community, observed the inspector, who also noted: “The children’s behaviour is exemplary; they are well-motivated and demonstrate a very positive attitude towards their learning.”

The document continues: “The staff are very hard-working and committed to the education, care and well being of the children. The quality of teaching observed ranged from very good to outstanding.”

The quality of the arrangements for pastoral care was also “outstanding”, as evidenced “through the excellent working relationships at all levels”.

The inspectorate assessed the quality of leadership and management to be “very good”, adding: “The governors are well informed about the life and work of the school; they work effectively with the principal to ensure that the school is well managed.”

It was also reported that “all of the coordinators provide very effective leadership” and that: “The quality of the strategic management of the principal ... is outstanding.”

Miss Hawthorne, principal, expressed her thanks to the whole Glynn PS community for their unwavering support of the children and staff.

She said she was delighted that the inspectorate had recognised “the happy, productive learning environment created by teamwork in order to ensure that every child in Glynn PS achieves to the best of their ability”.

The head teacher added: “The report is testament to the Glynn PS motto: ‘Happy Children Achieve More’.”
