Inspector praises teaching standard at Moyle Primary

In a letter to parents, Peter Garrett said that the report described the majority of teaching in the school as “very good or outstanding”.

The inspection took place in Moyle’s Primary and Nursery Unit and Learning Support Centres during the week beginning October 15.

Mr Garrett stated: “It gives me great pleasure to be able to inform parents that Moyle School has been designated as a “very good” school.

“It is rare for a school of this size to attain so high a descriptor.

“In fact, the Department of Education have written to the school governors to congratulate them, the principal and staff for the hard work and commitment which is necessary to obtain this high standard and have stated: ‘Your school’s capacity for sustained self-improvement is a successful example of the policy vision set out in ‘Every School a Good School’.”

Mr Garrett added that the report praised “high standards” achieved by the pupils as well as their “exemplary behaviour”.

He indicated that when primary six pupils were asked about their school, they “spoke enthusiastically about all aspects of school life including their enjoyment of learning”.

He went on to say that he is “particularly delighted” that every aspect of the provision in the school was evaluated as “very good”.

“The Nursery, Primary and Learning Support Centres all achieved the same ‘very good’ descriptor as did the Additional Support and the ‘Effective Reading Partnership Programme.’

“Also included in the ‘Very Good’ descriptor were the ‘Extended School Activities and Extra Curricular Activities, the use of ICT, PE and Healthy School initiatives and the caretaking and cleaning.”

Mr Garrett said that the report also noted “dedicated governors, principal and staff”.

Annie Greenlee, Chair of Governors, expressed her pride at the “very positive” inspection report, particularly the “very high standard of teaching”, the “outstanding” pastoral care in the school and the leadership of the principal.

The principal echoed his pride in working in a school with such a “dedicated and talented staff”.

As part of the inspection, the staff indicated that “they were happy and proud working in the school”.

They also feel that they are “valued and supported” and said they are “wtotally committed to providing the best both academically and pastorally for all the children”.
