International exchange students visit city

A GROUP of international students from Krakow recently visited the City as part of an exchange programme with Northern Ireland students.

The students, from Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and India were part of the Young Ambassadors Programme, which is supported by Lisburn City Council’s Good Relations Programme and the SEELB Peace 111 Programme’s Youth Education Social Inclusion Partnership (YESIP).

During their visit the students enjoyed visits across Northern Ireland including the Giants Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Newcastle, Belfast, The Titanic Exhibition and Lisburn.

The trip was a reciprocal visit with a cross community group of students from Northern Ireland having visited Krakow earlier in the year, when they visited Auschwitz Concentration Camp and Salt Mine in Wieliczka.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Alderman William Leathem said that he was delighted to welcome the students to Lagan Valley Island.

“The Young Ambassadors Programme was designed to give young people, from both home and abroad, the opportunity and encouragement to experience and respect different backgrounds, traditions, religions and communities and I am delighted to welcome these special young people to the City,” said Alderman Leathem.
