Investigation contracts awarded for A6 scheme

TWO site investigation contracts with a combined value of £1million have just been awarded for the £300million plus Londonderry to Dungiven dualling scheme, the Roads Minister Conor Murphy has confirmed.

Speaking during a debate at the Stormont Assembly the Minister said that work to finalise a reference design for the scheme was continuing.

He said this would enable the completion of an environmental statement, which would be followed by the publication of the draft direction and investment Orders.

"It is anticipated that those Orders will be published before the end of 2010. Consultations with statutory bodies on environmental issues are under way," he commented.

"Two site investigation contracts, with a combined value of 1million, have just been awarded.

"I can further advise that a public exhibition that was held in Strathfoyle on 19 and 20 January sought the views of local residents and businesses on proposals for the A2 between the Maydown and Caw roundabouts," he added.

The Minister also confirmed that the road scheme would cost between 320million and 390million.
