Investment boost for Laurelhill college

Laurelhill Community College will benefit from almost £195,000 investment in the coming months from the Department of Education’s minor works scheme.

Speaking about the funding announcement, Education Minister John O’Dowd said: “During September, my Department agreed investment of almost £195,000 for Laurelhill Community College for a new boiler.

“A total of 53 minor works projects, amounting to over £4.1millon were agreed in September bringing the total funding allocation this year to over £31.5million.

“This ongoing investment in the schools estate is having a positive impact on pupils, teachers and school staff and provides a much needed boost to the construction industry.”

Work carried out under the minor works scheme ranges from minor repairs to more significant refurbishment projects and extensions.

The Minister continued by highlighting the additional funding for schools’ maintenance and major capital builds. He said: “In August I announced an additional £10million for schools’ maintenance, bringing the total allocation to £47million for this financial year.”
