"There is huge competition to secure such a centre and the benefits its jobs would deliver for local people but I believe we have a very good chance of being in the mix."

Alderman McClure said he had been in discussions with East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell about the ongoing need to drive forward investment opportunities in this area.

But he warned: "Coleraine is no different to other areas where inward investment is crucial to the economy and I understand that our MP has to consider the whole constituency.

“However, I am also endeavouring to encourage my fellow local representatives to seize the initiative to protect existing jobs here and recommit themselves to actively seeking new opportunities for the Borough.

"Coleraine has so much to offer potential investors but we must all play our part in bringing the region's attributes top their attention."
