Investment welcomed

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, has warmly welcomed the news that St Patrick’s Academy, Friends School and Wallace High are to benefit from the multi-million pound ‘School Enhancement Programme’ announced by the Education Minister this week.

“Minister O’Dowd has announced that a number of schools throughout Northern Ireland are to have access to funding to undertake much needed works,” said Mrs Tolerton

“It is great that Lisburn schools have secured their share and I look forward to hearing how St Patrick’s High School, Friends School and Wallace High School will utilise this money.

“The education of our children is very important and I am not only referring to studying but also the facilities that are available to them.

“The release of this money is timely as hopefully works might be able to be started during the summer holidays,” she added.Lagan Valley MLA Jonathan Craig, who serves on the Stormont Education Committee, also welcomed the announcement. “It is great news that Lisburn schools will benefit from this fund,” he said.

Lisburn Councillor Yvonne Craig said she was delighted that local schools are receiving much needed funding. “I welcome the extra money for three of the best schools in Northern Ireland, namely St Patrick’s, Wallace and Friends who are set to benefit from this extra money for the extended schools programme.

“Both my children have benefited from the education at Friends and Wallace and I would be very supportive of the extra funding which they can make good use of.”

Councillor Alexander Redpath said the announcement was a cause for celebration. “Investment of this scale in Friends’, Wallace and St Patrick’s is clearly cause for celebration,” he said. “I am particularly pleased to welcome new buildings.
