Invitation to join Larne ATC

The ATC is a premier uniformed youth organisation throughout the UK and the world’s largest youth air training organisation.

The ATC provides lots of opportunities for young people to be involved in flying, adventure training, sports and many others of a long list.

The ATC participates in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.It was the first organisation to use the scheme. The Larne squadron in very much involved and has produced many awards in the past.

The ATC also provide vocational qualifications integrated through their training syllabus such as the BTEC Award in Aviation Studies - equivalent to 1 GCSE A-C grade (administered by HQ Air Cadets), BTEC Certificate in Aviation Studies - equivalent to 2 GCSEs A-C grades (administered by HQ Air Cadets) and BTEC First Diploma in Public Services - equivalent to 4 GCSEs A-C grades (administered by CVQO).

In effect cadets can gain these national recognised awards by attending parade nights and specific training week ends.

A new award scheme introduced by the British Safety Council into the ATC known the Entry Level Award (ELA) in Health & Safety awareness. The Larne Squadron were the first in the Northern Ireland Wing to partake in the scheme and gained 13 ELA certificates.

Air Cadets get the opportunity of flying in RAF and commercial aircraft - many progressing to achieve Flying Scholarships and their Private Pilots Licence (PPL).

Any young person aged between 13 and 17 interested in joining, can call in at the Squadron - based near the Latharna Avenue junction on the Roddens - on any Monday nights during August and September. The parade hours are from 7.30pm to 10pm.
