Invite to ‘Friends of Roddens’ by council on facility’s future

BALLYMONEY Council have invited the ‘Friends of the Roddens’ to give a presentation to members on the current status of the Care Home.

The move follows concerns expressed by councillors on the future of the local facility.

A letter from the Department of Health, Social Services & Public Safety, was tabled at a recent meeting in response to Council’s further representations to the Health Minister regarding the future of the Residential Care Home.

The Northern HSC Trust has advised that they have not ceased admissions to its residential homes for older people and continues to admit people across sites who require respite and intermediate care services. However, to create capacity for these uses and to pre-plan for future supported living schemes there have been no long-term admissions, with the exception of cases where there have been no local alternatives, for at least the last two years.

With specific regard to the Roddens, the Trust advises that a number of beds will be needed to accommodate residents from Rathmoyle.
