Iris and friends make over 160 fries

A total of £2,870 has been raised thanks to Iris Stewart's Biggest Breakfast ever!

Every year the local lady opens the doors at her Knockahollet home to raise fund for Cancer Research in memory of her late husband James.

And Saturday, March 13 saw her biggest crowd ever with nearly 200 people calling in for their breakfast.

Speaking to the Times, Iris explained: "It is eight years since James died of cancer and it's the seventh year of the Big Breakfast.

"Every year the event seems to be getting bigger and bigger and this year's really was the biggest ever with nearly 200 people coming along.

"Over 160 people requested fries and then others just had porridge or toast and a wee cuppa. It was extremely hectic at times however we had a great system where my daughter Rhonda made most of the fries in the kitchen. My others daughters Teeny and Ruth made the tea and toast while Laura, Rachael and La laid the tables and helped out. My mum May also did a tremendous job of baking while Jean, Liz and my sister Mo made a great contribution to the general running of the event.

Expressing since thanks to everyone who came along or helped in any way Iris added: "The whole morning was very well supported with a great turn out of both old and new faces. Even people who couldn't come along still sent donations in. The total raised was 2,870 which will go to Cancer Research. This really is a fantastic amount and one of the biggest ever for me.

"I would really like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped and supported the event in anyway. Over the past seven years I believe we have raised around 10,000 for the cancer charity.

"Looking back I really can't believe how many people turned up and got something to eat. I might have to get a bigger house if the numbers keep raising every year like this!"
