Iris raises record amount after 'Big Breakfast'

AN annual 'Big Breakfast' held at the home of a local lady has raised a whopping £3000 plus for charity.

Iris Stewart has been hosting people from far and near at her home near Knockahollett for the past eight years and support keeps getting better every time.

This year, Iris and her very supportive family collected a total of 3060 from donations before, during and after the event and on Saturday, her daughter, La, handed over a cheque to the chairman of the Ballymoney branch of Cancer Research, Mr. Mervyn Ferris, and committee member, Mr. Edgar Murphy.

It was an amount that had Mr. Ferris singing Iris's praises. He told her: "I congratulate you on your success. This year has seen a record amount and we all want to thank you because it is obvious that you and your family have put in a great deal of effort."

Mr. Ferris assured the family that every penny would be put into research in an attempt to try and alleviate the suffering of the many sufferers.

"We want to see the day come when we can develop better treatment," he added before telling Iris that his dietary regime didn't afford him the opportunity to take too many cooked breakfasts, but he would certainly never miss Iris's fry!

Iris would like to thank all who helped her on the day and, in particular, those who made such generous donations.

Last year's effort raised 2700.
