Irish road show arrives in Lisburn

CULTURE Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín, has brought the Líofa road show to the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn.

The Líofa Ministerial initiative, which encourages people to sign up to become fluent in Irish by 2015, has continued to go from strength to strength.

Speaking in Lisburn the Minister said: “When we launched Líofa in September 2011 the initial target was for 1000 people to sign up, however we quickly reached this.

“Since then we have also exceeded our second target of 2015 and we have now set our sights even higher and hope to have 5000 people speaking and fluent in Irish by the year 2015.

“I believe this demonstrates people are keen to explore our rich cultural heritage, part of which is our language.

“It is a vital part of our shared culture and something that can be enjoyed and shared by all.

“I want everyone who shares my passion for learning the language to be able to access all the opportunities they can. ”
