Is it a teacher? Is it a glazier? No it’s...Raisedon Rock

BY day Rab, Johnny, Gary, Leo, Steve and Paul hold down normal jobs - but by night they take on a whole new persona when they take to the stage as ‘Raised on Rock’ to belt out some of the greatest rock hits of all time.

The six men, whose day jobs range from glazier to electrician, accountant to teacher, have been friends for last twenty years and have now decided the time has come to launch themselves onto the local music scene as a group.

Professional singer Johnny Brady is joined in the band by guitar tutor Paul Beattie, glazier Rab Beggs, electrician Leo Rice, accountant Gary Corkin and teacher Steve Nimmons, who is the Vice Principal of Seymour Hill Primary School.

However, the men leave their day jobs behind when they perform as ‘Raised on Rock’, a name they chose because that is exactly what they were - raised on rock music.

The band, whose music includes hits from the likes of Deep Purple, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Journey and Boston, have played a few gigs but they will be officially launching their bid to secure a management contract when they play the Eglantine Inn in Belfast next Friday night (June 10).

“We have known each other for twenty years,” explained Gary, who plays keyboards when not at his desk in Oasis Travel. “We all come from a rock background and we decided to get together because we felt people would want to hear this sort of music, we believe there is a niche out there.

“There’s very little music for people of our age but it is also the type of music that appeals to everyone.”

The band are hoping this will be just the first of many gigs across Northern Ireland.

“We are seeking management and are hoping to make it onto the theatre circuit,” added Gary.

‘Raised on Rock’ will be playing at the Eglantine Inn in Belfast on Friday June 10.
