Isobel Knobbs (nee Lynch)An appreciation

Isobel Knobbs, better known to her friends and family as Isa, came to Kildoag over 60 years ago.

After marrying Robert Knobbs, she devoted herself to raising her family of four boys and five girls.

Isobel was also a familiar face behind the bar at the family business, Knobbs’ Bar, which under the couple’s guidance, regularly served as an ad hoc community centre.

She was more than just the owner’s wife, as she set about taking a keen interest in the everyday lives of others and had a humorous way of helping people with their ails and illnesses.

A friend to all, she was dedicated to her community, Isa was a great fundraiser for good causes and regularly held collections for Killaloo Parish Church, the local Orange Hall, the Bonds Glen Cricket Club and a myriad of other good causes.

Not many may know it, but Isa was also a keen sportswoman, and served as Captain of the Ladies Cricket Club and the Ladies Darts team, as well as the Indoor Bowls team.

She was known as a firm but fair landlady, whose word was law, and she had her own cure for the winter cold.

She was pre-deceased by a daughter Kathryn in 1972 and her husband in 1982.

Her funeral was to Killaloo Parish Church on Tuesday, November 17, was followed by burial in the family plot in the adjoining graveyard.

Isobel is survived by her children William, Derek, Lynda, Jackie, Diane, Carol, Lionel, June and the extended family, including 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Annie (England), Grace (Claudy) and her brother Eddie (Australia), to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

In the eyes of all she was a good friend and a hero.
