'It is beyond comprehension': McKay

NORTH Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has condemned the arson attack on a Community Rescue Service vehicle in Ballymoney.

Mr McKay said: “It is beyond comprehension why anyone would go out in the middle of the night to destroy a vehicle which is specifically built to save people’s lives. It is as equally reprehensible an attack as those on other emergency services.

“This new vehicle was launched recently at the Bridges of Hope Festival in Stranocum and was obtained through various fundraisers for the Elliott appeal. This will come as devastating news to all those involved in the fundraising for this vehicle and I hope that anyone who has information on those who carried out this attack brings that information forward.”

Bannside Sinn Fin Councillor Monica Digney said that those involved with the Community Rescue Service were gutted by the attack;“Those involved in the Community Rescue Service, which is a charitable organisation, are devastated by this news. The vehicle was to be used in a local marathon taking place along the north coast today.

“The vehicle has been completely gutted. It is a completely mindless and despicable attack and has angered many people locally given the nature of the work that this vehicle is used for.”
