It's a small world we live in...

THIS year's local New Year honours recipients prove that it's a small world we live in.

Waringstown woman Kerry Anthony, who got an MBE for services to homeless people, spent several years at King’s Park under the tutelage of headmaster Brian Cassells, who got an OBE for services to the Inland Waterways.

Kerry’s mother June also taught primary one children at the same school.

36-year-old Kerry, the youngest recipient of an award in Northern Ireland, went on to Lurgan College, where fellow MBE Roberta Turkington has been helping to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

Roberta, who got her award for voluntary service to the award scheme, is also a former college pupil.

And to complete the circle, Roberta grew up in Derryadd just a stone’s throw away from Brian Cassells’ family home.
