'˜It's a very sad day for the Dungannon farming community' - Lord Morrow

Speaking at the Assembly today (Monday), Lord Morrow expressed his sympathy to the family of the young man who died as the result of an incident on a farm between Dungannon and Moy yesterday afternoon.

“I raised this matter on the floor of the assembly at question time and indeed the entire house joined in passing on their condolences, as did the Minister for Economy Simon Hamilton,” he said.

“This latest tragedy demonstrates how difficult it is for framers and I asked the minister for an assurance that the Health & Safety Executive’s high profile media campaigns around farm accidents would continue.

“I was advised it was the Minister’s intention to all he and his department could to ensure to continue raising awareness and highlighting specific dangerous.

“In a further question the Minister confirmed farm fatalities in the past five years is declining, but one is one too many.

“This is a very sad day for the Dungannon farming community and beyond.”

HSENI has confirmed it was made aware of the incident, and that it will be investigating.

President of the Ulster Farmers’ Union, Barclay Bell, has also extended his sympathies to the family.

“It is a sad reminder that farms are busy workplaces, that can sometimes be dangerous,” he said.

“Farm safety continues to be a important issue across the industry and I would urge all farming families to re-double their efforts to stay farm safe following this tragic accident.”
