Richard Snape, managing director of the Wooden Floor Company, left Northern Ireland on Wednesday to attempt to lay a floor at the highest altitude ever - the 5,985m summit of Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro.

It will take Richard eight days to ascend with the flooring in his rucksack, starting out from Forest Camp on the edge of the Shira Plateau.

He will then follow the Lemosho route around the northern Flanks of Kilimanjaro, eventually summiting via Gillman’s point on July 21 and completing the flooring installation.

Richard, who owns businesses in Northern Ireland and Scotland - one of which provided floors for the set of 007 movie ‘Spectre’ - has been training for the last year.

If successful he will go into the record books for the highest ever floor installation.

“We had success in the movies,” he said, “so now its time for a real life adventure.”

Richard is using the record attempt to raise funds for The Bradley Logan Memorial Fund.

Last August 10-year-old Bradley died from an undetected heart condition CPVT (Catecholominergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia).

The Fund was set up to raise money for portable defibrillators.
