IT'S NOT SAFE FOR US HERE

A BANBRIDGE couple who claim they have been targeted in a series of recent attacks said they no longer feel safe in their home.

Eileen O'Boyle and her partner David Duprey, who live in Kenlis Place, said they can't sleep or eat because of the stress caused after having their front door broken and threats made against them in recent weeks.

The couple have made three requests to the local Housing Executive Office to be relocated out of the area but said they are disappointed and frustrated that nothing has been done to date.

In their third letter, sent to the Housing Executive last week, the couple detail several incidents including being followed, shouted at and people banging on their walls.

Eileen said she and David want to be moved as soon as possible.

"It's not safe for us here," she said. "Both our blood pressures are raised during this past month especially.

"We can't sleep, eat or do anything normally inside our flat."

The couple also hit out at the "time-consuming" procedures they have had to go through to seek a new home.

"We have to spend (time) writing up these letters for help and 'incident' reports in 'incident diaries'," they said in their letter. "It's very disruptive and time-consuming."

The Housing Executive, council and PSNI all confirmed they are part of an investigation into the complaints but declined to give any detail as to whether the couple's request for a relocation will be accepted.

A police spokeswoman said, "Police are aware of ongoing issues in Kenlis Place and are working with residents and other statutory agencies to seek a resolution."

The council also said they are working to resolve the problem.

"I can confirm that the council is currently dealing with a noise complaint in Kenlis Place that is linked to an NIHE investigation," said the spokesperson. "As the council is still investigating the noise complaint, I am unable to provide any further details at this stage."
