It’s time to get voting for your favourite green space

MOSSLEY Park and Mallusk Cemetery recently won the prestigious ‘Green Flag’ award for excellence and now people can vote for them in the People’s Choice Awards until Sunday, October 14.

The two sites run by Newtownabbey Borough Council will be competing against other green spaces from all over the UK to win the coveted title of the nation’s favourite park or green space. Both Mossley Park and Mallusk Cemetery (pictured) offer local residents a green space to get away from it all.

“Mallusk Cemetery’s ‘Green Flag’ award reflects the attitudes of those who use the site. A well maintained space, it offers beautiful surroundings to relax and remember loved ones,” a council spokesperson said.

“The other award-winning site Mossley Park is a fantastic facility which allows visitors to play sports, take a stroll away from the roadside and enjoy the play park. Free car parking and toilet facilities are provided to ensure that visitors can spend as long as they wish in the park,” she added.

Margaret Lindsay, the council’s Parks and Cemeteries Manager, commented: “I would encourage absolutely everyone living locally to vote. Both of the green spaces are fantastic in their own right. Mossley Park boasts an excellent area for relaxation and recreation whilst Mallusk Cemetery offers a tranquil space where visitors can reflect, relax and remember loved ones.”
