Jack closing in on karting's Ulster Cup title

With a six-speed gearbox and speeds of up to 130mph, Ulidia Integrated College student Jack Irvine is ahead of Portadown’s Scott Greenaway by some 30 points and is hoping to tie up the championship at the weekend at Nutts Corner Circuit, which he believes would make him the youngest driver to have won this championship.

Irvine has had a tremendous season with some hard races and plenty of wins with his highlight being the Irish Grand Prix when he beat multiple British and European champion Liam Morley in Race 3. Irvine also made his debut at Bishopscourt, the fastest circuit in Northern Ireland. He qualified sixth and finished second in the last race. Jack has also won the Stephen McCrea Memorial Trophy and the Tommy Rogers Memorial Cup, which was very fitting as the late Tommy helped Jack out when he began racing at the age of eight.

But Jack is no stranger to success in his young career, winning the Northern Ireland Cadet Winter Series at the age of nine and winning the Southern Ireland Championships.

Also, his father James, a multiple Irish champion, GP winner, two-time O Plate winner and runner up in the British Championship, has a lot of experience in setting up the machinery for running at the sharp end.

Jack says he plans to compete at a few of next year’s British Championships rounds and especially the British GP at Donnington where all the top British and European drivers will be alongside him.
