Jail term for Ballymena man on drugs and weapon charges

A four months' prison sentence has been imposed on a Ballymena man who admitted to a series of offences including possession of drugs, possession of counterfeit currency and a prohibited weapon.

He was Darren Gilmore, (34) of Francis Street.

Gilmore was sentenced at last Thursday’s sitting of Ballymena Magistrate’s Court in Antrim to - three months imprisonment for possession of a prohibited weapon, namely a taser type device; three months imprisonment on each of two assaults on a police officer; four months for possession of a Class B controlled drug, namely cannabis resin, with intent to supply; one month for possessing fireworks without a licence; and, two months for possessing counterfeit currency, namely Bank of England 20 notes. All the offences occurred on March 2, 2009.

District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry ordered that the sentences would run concurrently and be served concurrent with a sentence presently being served by Gilmore.
