James is the last of the (charity) Mohicans!

A Bushmills man will be hoping to turn heads this month with an eye-catching purple Mohican haircut!

James Callaghan will be sporting the unusual hairstyle for the whole of September in a bid to raise funds for Cancer Research UK however the whole idea started off as a joke...just off the top of his head, you might say!

The 63-year-old told the Times that, during a normal hair trim by his wife Tricia, James told her: “Do something stupid”.

So, just for fun, Tricia cut James’s hair, leaving him with a strip of hair up the middle of his head which she then “puffed up into a Mohican”.

Tricia joked: “I’m not actually a hairdresser, before doing this, the only hair I had cut was on dogs and horses!”

James set off to church on the Sunday morning, sporting his new hairstyle and received lots of comments and some suggestions that he keep the style for charity.

“There were lots of suggestions of different charities but James decided on Cancer Research as there is hardly a family which has not been touched by cancer,” said Tricia.

So, on August 31st, Tricia cut and coloured the Mohican purple - as lavender is the colour for cancer charities - and James will now sport the style for the whole of September.

He will be collecting door-to-door around the Bushmills, Billy, Derrykeighan and Caueway areas to try to reach his target of £500.

“But if I hit that, I might keep going to £1,000,” said James.
