Speaking to the TIMES, a Police Ombudsman spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we have received a complaint in relation to this case.”

The spokesman told the TIMES the complaint was closed a few weeks ago and that, following assessment by investigators, “no evidence of police misconduct” was found.

To date, one person, 24 year-old Finbar McCoy, of Loughbeg Road, Toomebridge, has appeared in court accused of murdering James McDonagh.

Meanwhile, the PSNI this week confirmed that a 33 year-old policewoman has been charged with a number of offences as part of the overall investigation, including two counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of withholding information regarding the death of Mr McDonagh.

She is due to appear before Magherafelt Magistrates Court on February 17.
