Janine and Janice set for tandem sky diving fundraiser

TWO friends from Ahoghill are preparing to make a tandem parachute jump in the skies above Garvagh this summer in aid of two worthy causes.

Janine Lyttle (39) of Trinity Mews and Janice Reid (42) of Thornbrook in the village will be among a group of four women who will step out of a plane on July 28.

“We’ve talked about doing this for a long time and Janice just decided recently that it was time we did it,” said Janine.

They will each do an ‘tandem’ jump which means they will be attached to an instructor during their descent to the Wild Geese Parachute Centre.

“Everybody is welcome to come along and watch,” said Janine.

“We’re both looking forward to it but who knows what we’ll be like when we’re sitting on the edge of the plane,” she said.

The friends are hoping to raise a substantial sum for two good causes - Guide Dogs for the Blind and a cancer charity.

On Easter Monday, they raised £862 through a raffle and were set to raise even more on Friday night at a disco in the Michelin Club featuring a raffle and auction.

Janine and Janice have thanked everyone who supported the disco or contributed to its success in any way.

They have extended special thanks to auction donators - Lil Bo Tique (Belfast), Toner Oil (Kilrea), Caldwells Jewellers (Ballymena) and Johnny Medusa (Ahoghill); also Ina Black (Ahoghill) who provided them with free promotional printing including tickets and posters; and, DJ Neil Greer from Cullybackey who gave his services free on Friday night.
