Japanese pianist bids a musical farewell to Magee

Over the last few years Atsushi has delighted audiences with a number of highly acclaimed recitals and concerto performances, presented as part of his PhD in Performance Studies with the Music Department at Ulster’s Magee campus.

Niamh Pearce, Cultural Development Officer said: “Atsushi has made a significant contribution to music-making at Magee over the last five years and this free afternoon recital in the Great Hall will give local audiences an opportunity to enjoy a final performance before he departs for Japan and give him a warm farewell.

“Although his studies have focused in particular on the music of Rachmaninov, his performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto K453 in Pennyburn Chapel in December 2006 was much admired and showcased his technical expertise and musical versatility.

“Following the successful completion of his PhD studies in Summer 2008, Atsushi maintained close links with the Music Department at Magee, continuing his own solo performance practice and supporting other music students through accompaniment and performance of new compositions. We wish him all the best for his future career back in Japan.”

Atsushi Tamura’s concert will take place at 3pm on Sunday, May 23 at Magee.
