Jay on scoresheet for Bhoys

Lurgan’s Jay Beatty was in the headlines again as he took to the pitch during Celtic’s game at Hamilton Academical and netted a goal.

Jay scored at half time to rapturous applause from the home and away support, which capped a memorable day as guest of honour at the match.

His dad Martin told the ‘MAIL’: “Before kick off Jay was brought to the Celtic changing room to give the team talk, something that has never happened before. He was also brought to the Hamilton changing room to meet the players.

“At half time Jay was brought onto the pitch where he did the Hamilton half time draw. He was introduced over the PA system to the crowd and he was allowed to do the half time challenge so he ran towards the Celtic end of the stadium with the ball and scored with the full stadium chanting his name.

“He then took a penalty against a fully suited Hamilton director sending him the wrong way and again both sets of fans cheered and sang his name. It was very emotional for me to watch but I was so proud of him.

“Celtic player Isaguire gave Jay his top after the game and Hamilton Football Club confirmed that the scoreline on Sky may have been 2-0 but they were recording the scoreline as a 3-0 win to Celtic with the second goal being a penalty scored by Jay Beatty.”

Martin added: “The day was amazing from start to finish and to see your son score in front of the Celtic fans and to hear them chanting his name will live with me forever. At the time we did not know that Sky Sports was also showing the clips so my wife and daughter got a very nice surprise when watching the game at home.

“Jay had the best day of his life and we cannot thank Hamilton Football Club enough for making his Christmas wish come true and again thanks to Celtic FC for everything, letting him meet the players, give the team talk and of course to the fans for cheering him on and chanting his name.”
