JC Stewart - greener than your average grocer!

JC STEWART Foodhall in Magherafelt have won a UK national award for their energy efficiency achievements.

The SME Award for Energy Efficiency 2010 was announced at the Sustainability Live awards ceremony at the Motor Cycle Museum in Birmingham.

The Environment and Energy Awards attracted a huge number of quality entrants and judging was very tough. JC Stewart Ltd emerged the winner for its excellent energy practices.

These include the use of systems to recover heat from the shop’s refrigeration to provide hot water and heating.

The business has also removed unnecessary lighting and increased recycling.

The judges were particularly impressed with JC Stewart’s installation of a wood pellet boiler.

Using wood pellets, a sustainable resource, has significantly reduced JC Stewart’s carbon footprint.

Said Paul Stewart: ‘We are delighted that our efforts to become more energy efficient have been recognised at a national level.

“Staff have worked hard to produce real efficiency gains in the amount of energy we use.

“The judges commended the energy-aware mindset that has been firmly embedded in the business.”
