Jean Toussaint brings stellar line-up to Flowerfield

FLOWERFIELD Arts Centre welcomes a quintet featuring some of the finest names in European jazz for what looks like a superb evening of high-octane bebop this Friday.

It’s an all-star line-up that is not to be missed for modern jazz fans: On saxophone - Jean Toussaint; on trumpet - Linley Hamilton; on bass - Alec Dankworth; on drums - David Lyttle, and on guitar - Mark McKnight.

This quintet has been pulled together by trumpeter and broadcaster Linley Hamilton, who is no stranger to Flowerfield audiences. Linley is one of the UK’s foremost musicians and is a major talent on trumpet and flugelhorn instrument, both in his technical virtuosity as well as his passion for the music and his sense of showmanship.

Linley has played with some of the greatest names in international jazz and pop, including Paul Brady, Juliet Turner, Van Morrison, Eleanor McEvoy and Jacqui Dankworth. He’s also renowned as a broadcaster, hosting After Midnight with Linley Hamilton every Sunday night.

As if being a former Jazz Messenger with the acclaimed Art Blakey group was not enough, Jean Toussaint also regularly led the jam sessions at New York’s Blue Note club. He joined Art Blakey in 1982 and toured and recorded with him for four years.

Drummer David Lyttle has played Flowerfield a number of times, as the rhythmic linchpin for a number of groups. As a performer and composer, David has performed in the US, Canada, Britain and Europe with a wide variety of internationally-respected artists.

All tickets for this show are priced at 10, which includes a complimentary interval drink. Tickets are available from reception at Flowerfield Arts Centre. You can also purchase tickets by phone on (028) 7083 1400.
