Jedward add some comicrelief atSeymourHill Primary

SEYMOUR Hill Primary School had a surprise visit from celebrity twins John and Edward Grimes, better known as ‘Jedward’ ahead of Red Nose Day.

Jedward bounded into the morning assembly on Tuesday much to the delight of the shocked pupils. The school was singled out by organisers because of its fundraising efforts for Comic Relief.

After hosting a fun Red Nose quiz, the pair took to the stage to perform in front of an excited crowd of pupils and teachers, as they clapped and cheered along to the hit single ‘Under Pressure’.

The highlight of the visit was the Red Nose space hopper race with John and Edward as team captains. It was neck and neck after the first lap, but ‘Team Edward’ managed to storm ahead to claim victory and become school champions.

Speaking after the race, space hopper judge and headteacher, Norman Meharry said: ”Seymour Hill Primary School is a huge supporter of Red Nose Day, the whole school loves taking part.

“To have Jedward come here as a thank you from Comic Relief is just wonderful. The visit will go down in the school’s history.”

Donning Red Noses for photographs and a marathon autograph signing session, John said: “We love Belfast. It was so cool meeting everyone at Seymour Hill, they’re doing some amazing fundraising for Red Nose Day.”

“This school is awesome, they raised £640 last Red Nose Day and will smash that total this time. There’s loads of really cool fundraising stuff happening and there’s even an ‘X Factor’ style talent show. We’ve been giving all the kids tips.” said Edward. Comic Relief is calling on schools and early years groups to get creative and raise some serious cash for Comic Relief which takes place today Friday March 18. In 2009 alone, the UK’s children raised a phenomenal £7.8 million in schools and early years groups across the country, and the Ulster area saw almost 200 schools and early years groups take part, raising just under £70,000 for Comic Relief.
