‘Jennifer’s Fund’ benefits from cadets

Cadets from Ballymoney were among 175 cadets and staff who gathered at Caw ARC to take part in the traditional St Patrick’s Day Parade.

HM Lord Lieutenant Dr Angela Garvey presented sprigs of shamrock to the cadets including Cadet Pipe Major Karen McAleese 17 (Ballymoney Detachment) who said it was great to take part in the parade which is such a tradition and “to be on parade with my brothers David and Robert who are also cadets in Ballymoney and to get the chance to play in front of such a large number of people is really good.”

On completion of the parade everyone moved into the drill hall and the St Patrick’s Day Draw was held in aid of the B Company nominated charity “Jennifer’s Fund” when the draw was finished Major Sam Donnell presented a cheque to for £5,000 to Jennifer Smyth with two cadets,

Cadet Company Sgt Major Heather McKinley (18) and Cadet Colour Sgt Rebekah Mahon (17) who took part in a parachute jump raised over £1010. L/Cpl Nicole Stewart from Ballymoney raised over £200 taking a sponsor sheet around her school. SI Trevor McCloskey Detachment Commander of Ballymoney Detachment was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant by Dr Garvey.
