Jenny Bristow cooks up a winning recipeat Banbridge

Students Lucy Wan and Emma Telford won the top prize in Jenny’s school competition – all in aid of promoting the Belfast City Marathon’s official nominated charity, CLIC Sargent, Northern Ireland’s leading children’s and young person’s cancer charity.

Over 100 entries were received from schools across Northern Ireland from students, who devised nutritional meals to fuel the runners, relay teams, walkers and fun runners. After much deliberation the judging panel awarded first place to the Banbridge Academy students for their paella inspired dish.

“The quality and standard of the menus that I received were absolutely fantastic and I could tell that each pupil had put a lot of time and effort into them,” said Jenny. “I hope that taking part in my school’s competition has helped pupils to gain nutritional knowledge for a runner taking part in a sporting activity such as the upcoming Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon, whilst supporting the CLIC Sargent Homes from Home appeal.”

Teresa Sloan, NI Appeal Director, added: “We are absolutely delighted to work with our ambassador, Jenny Bristow, on this schools initiative and we are so pleased with number and quality of entries. CLIC Sargent would like to thank all the schools that entered for their commitment and support for the competition and the Homes from Home appeal.

“The ‘Homes from Home’ appeal to date has received tremendous support from the people of Northern Ireland, but we still have some way to go before we reach the fundraising targets. So, if you’re a runner and are interested in getting involved in the 2014 half marathon, why not do it and ‘Run for Home’ for CLIC Sargent? Any money you raise will stay in Northern Ireland and will go directly to the NI ‘Homes from Home’ appeal.” The second Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon will take place on Sunday September 14, starting at 9am from the King’s Hall Pavilion and finishing at the same location.
