Jilted lover trashed ex-girlfriend’s house

A man has been convicted of causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to his ex-girlfriend’s house after she broke up with him.

Anthony McCoy, with an address in Carshalton, Surrey, denied criminal damage and theft of a laptop computer in June last year.

The 33-year-old did not appear at Londonderry Magistrate’s Court for the hearing.

McCoy ripped and spray painted furniture in his ex-girlfriend’s house, cut the wires of electrical items and ‘slashed’ pictures.

He also mixed hot pepper sauce in her make-up, burned one shoe of every pair the woman owned and burned her clothes.

Photographs of the damage, which is estimated at over £6,000, were shown to the court.

Video messages McCoy sent to his ex were also played.

In the first of these he claims he slept with the woman’s best friend and tells her he had burnt her shoes and clothes.

He also calls his ex ‘stupid and fat’ and says ‘I f****** hate you’.

McCoy was convicted of the charges on the tendered evidence.

McCoy’s Defence solicitor Michael McGee said that his client did not attend the court because ‘he has fears for his safety in coming here’.

Issuing an arrest warrant, the District Judge Barney McElholm stated that: “Short of paying compensation, I don’t see how this man will avoid a custodial sentence for this.”
