Jim Wells visits cathlab and cancer buildin first trip to west

Health Minister Jim Wells has visited the new radiotherapy unit build and catheterisation laboratory at Altnagelvin during his first visit to the west as a Minister.

Chairman of the Western Health and Social Care Trust, Gerard Guckian said: “I was delighted to welcome Minister Wells on his first official to the Western Trust.

“During the visit Minister Wells viewed the construction progress of our two significant capital development projects, the Omagh Local Enhanced Hospital and the Radiotherapy Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital. He also seen the excellent service provided at our Cath Lab at Altnagelvin.

“We thank the Minister and the Department of Health for their continued support and we look forward to the opening of these new developments and providing high quality healthcare into the future.”

The Minister also visited the site of the £85m Omagh Hospital construction project.

He said: “I am delighted to officially mark the first stage of construction at the new Omagh Hospital. From 2016 the Omagh Enhanced Local Hospital will provide a range of important hospital services to the community.

“This will cover a range of primary, secondary and community healthcare services appropriate for local delivery to the people of Omagh and surrounding district.”
