Job clubs to help young people

In a letter to Moyle Council, regarding the Youth Employment Scheme, Kieran McArdle the scheme’s Project Manager, said the clubs are a series or workshops and seminars which provide information and develop young people’s skills in basic job search techniques, CV building, application writing, interviewing, etc.

Mr McArdle asked the Council to encourage employes and young people to become involved.

Mr McArdle’s letter stated: ‘Since the launch of the scheme in September 2012 interest from employers and young people has increased steadily across Northern Ireland and the most recent data indicates that almost 800 employers have signed agreements and offered 1,400 opportunities for young people.

‘It is encouraging to report that 375 young people have to date availed of these opportunities with 165 having secured full time employment.

‘In the area covered by Moyle District Council 12 employers have already signed up to the Youth Employment Scheme and currently there are five young people participating in the scheme.

‘Plans are under way to further promote the scheme to local employers and young people at events which will be held in Ballycastle, Coleraine and Cushendall,’ the letter stated.
