Job creation at Toomebridge trailer company welcomed

Mid-Ulster MLA’s have welcomed the news that Toomebridge company SDC Trailers have secured a £10million contract from trailer rental company, Hireco Ltd.

SDLP MLA Patsy McGlone said: “This is welcome news for SDC Trailers and for the local economy. SDC is clearly a successful company creating much needed jobs.

“This new contract, which extends their relationship with Hireco, should help secure those jobs. This is a vote of confidence in everyone involved with the company, from workforce to management.

“I also welcome the news that SDC Trailers expects to continue to prosper in the years ahead. Their investment in local people has been rewarded, and the local economy will benefit from their success.”

UUP MLA Sandra Overend also welcomed the news saying: “The creation of another 50 posts at SDC Trailers is fantastic news. This comes on the back of 40 new jobs that were created at the firm in February, and further underlines the position of the company as one of Mid-Ulster’s major employers.

“These new positions have been generated as SDC have secured a £10 million order to supply 600 new trailers to rental company Hireco. Following expansion into the Middle Eastern market earlier this year, this order further demonstrates the firm’s ambition.

“I congratulate SDC Trailers on securing this major order. When visiting the company last year, the determination of the management and staff to push ahead and secure new business was evident, so it comes as no surprise, and is an example of one of our local firms successfully competing in a competitive industry,” she added.

Manufacturing NI also welcomed the £10m contract for SDC Trailers.

A spokesperson said: “The headlines are often made by foreign direct investment deals but the news from SDC and Wrightbus earlier this week is evidence that our own indigenous businesses are competing and winning internationally, creating well paid sustainable jobs and strengthening local communities as a result.

“SDC Trailers, Wrightbus and great local companies like them are very important and as the global economy begins to strengthen, it is critical that government supports their growth and work to create a cost environment, particularly in energy, which means they can compete internationally.”
