Jobs blow as JJB Sports closes

COLERAINE suffered another jobs blow yesterday (Monday) as JJB Sports closed.

Staff were informed that the company had called in administrators after they failed to attract a suitable offer of sale.

The Coleraine store, located at the Riverside Regional Centre, employs around 20 staff.

On Monday morning a sign on the shutter of the Coleraine store advised customers that KPMG has been apointed as adminstrators. The notice also thanked the public for their custom.

A second store, at Hanover Place in Coleraine, closed down earlier this year. At that time some of the staff were transfered to the Riverside Centre outlet.

Last month the company announced a formal sale process and saw interest from a number of parties, however the company confirmed on Monday morning that the offer period had ended and they had not attracted a suitable offer.

The chain employs 4,000 staff across 180 outlets in the United Kingdom.
