Jobs speculation quashed

A ONE time major Londonderry call-centre employer and a multi-national I.T. company have quashed rumours that jobs are to return to their former operation in the city.

Speculation that Stream Global Services were about to re-open a customer services contract on behalf of Hewlett Packard has been denied by both companies.

Information given to the Sentinel suggested that former Stream employees had been approached with a view to going back to work at the Buncrana Road based site.

The Sentinel asked Stream Global Serives to comment on the potential return of jobs to their operation that until 2009 employed around 800 people in the city. But, a spokeswoman for Stream said: : "Unfortunately, I am unable to confirm this."

The last remaining Stream contract in Londonderry is operated on behalf of Hewlett Packard. The small group of employees retained at Stream in Londonderry operate a global support network for Hewlett Packard printer divisions corpoate clients. The Sentinel understood that the quality of service provided by those employees in the city was a mitgating factor in the major I.T. firm's consideration of returning jobs to this location on a larger scale.

Yet, a spokesman for Hewlett Packard told this paper: "I can confirm that Stream International currently provide support to HP with some aspects of our customer support activities. HP has no plans to develop its relationship with Stream International at this stage."
