Jobs to be created by £7m Caterpillar investment

Manufacturing giant Caterpillar has announced a major £7 million investment at its factories in Larne, Monkstown and Belfast.

The US company is to begin manufacturing vehicles used in the scrap metal and forestry industries.

Currently the firm only makes generators across its Northern Ireland plants.

The new operation will require 100 positions; some will be new jobs while others will involve existing staff being retrained.

In September last year, the firm cut more than 700 jobs as it moved some manufacturing to China.
